At the frontline of climate action

地球是人类赖以生存和发展的家园，气候变化给人类造成的影响广泛而深远，不仅关乎当下，更关乎未来。世界气象组织确认2023年全球气温比工业化前水平高出了1.45℃，再次打破历史纪录。联合国秘书长古特雷斯发出“全球沸腾时代到来”的警告。

Planet Earth is our home and the foundation of human survival and development. The impacts of climate change on humanity are far-reaching and significant, affecting not only the present but also the future. WMO confirmed that the global temperature in 2023 was 1.45°C above the pre-industrial level, setting a new historical record.  The UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned of the ‘era of global boiling’.

And it is just the beginning. the era of global boiling has arrived。

应对气候变化需要行动，关键在于强有力的共同行动。2024年世界气象日主题是“气候行动最前线”，希望大家能够主动参与到气候行动中来，推动构建人类命运共同体，全力守护共同的家园。

Addressing climate changerequires action, and strong collective efforts are key. The theme of World Meteorological Day 2024 is “At the frontline of climate action”. It encourages active participation in climate initiatives, promotes the building of a community with a shared future for humanity, and emphasizes the importance of protecting our common home.

And it is a call for everybody. We must all pull in the same direction.

气候行动需要所有人的参与，我们必须朝着同一个方向努力。

中国是全球气候变化的敏感区和受影响显著区，气候变化对国家粮食安全、人体健康、水资源、生态环境、能源供应、重大工程建设等诸多领域带来严峻挑战。作为全球生态文明建设的重要参与者、贡献者、引领者，中国始终高度重视科学应对气候变化，坚持走绿色低碳发展道路，减缓与适应并举，可再生能源利用已站在国际前沿。

China is located in an area that is significantly affected by the global climate change. As a result, the country is facing severe challenges in areas such as national food security, human health, water resources, ecological environment, energy supply, and major infrastructure projects. As a key actor, contributor, and leader in the construction of global ecological civilization, China consistently prioritizes a scientific response to climate change, follows the path of green and low-carbon development, and balances the actions between mitigation and adaptation. At present, China is at the forefront of international renewable energy utilization.

长期以来，气象部门积极参与国家应对气候变化总体部署和行动，站在防灾减灾最前线，力求破解全球气候变化敏感区大气密码，支撑生态文明建设与可持续发展进程。

Meteorological services at all levels have been actively involved in the national general plans and actions to address climate changefor years They are  at the forefront of disaster prevention and mitigation, decoding atmospheric codes in sensitive areas affected by global climate change. This supports the construction of ecological civilization and the process of sustainable development.

作为联合国政府间气候变化专门委员会（IPCC）国内牵头部门，深度参与气候变化国际治理，深度参与IPCC评估进程和未来机制建设。抓住适应气候变化与碳达峰碳中和战略机遇，结合“一带一路”倡议、南南合作等扩大务实合作，国际影响力显著提升。

As the leading department of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in China, CMA deeply involved in international climate governance，including IPCC’s assessment processes and future mechanism construction. CMA capitalizes on strategic opportunities in climate adaptation, carbon peak, and carbon neutrality, and expands practical cooperation in conjunction with ‘Belt and Road’ initiative and South-South cooperation. As a result, the international influence of the CMA has significantly increased.

加强气候变化科学传播，推动气候变化“大科普”，提高社会公众气象防灾减灾和应对气候变化的意识和能力。

Meanwhile, CMA aims to improve the communication of climate science and promote extensive climate change education. This will enhance public awareness and capabilities in meteorological disaster prevention, mitigation, and adaptation to climate change.

道阻且长，行则将至。应对气候变化挑战，人类社会需要共同行动，投入到气候行动最前线，坚持绿色可持续发展，共创人与自然和谐共生的美好未来。

The journey is long and arduous, but with determined steps we will reach our destination.  Addressing climate change requires collective action from everyone. We must devote ourselves to the forefront of climate initiatives, promote green and sustainable development, and work together to create a future where humans and nature thrive in harmony.
